need information about the Battan Death March?
We have a survivor of the death march in our church and would like to see him Sunday, but have very little information on them. Any help would be appreciated.
THE death march of Bataan by: JESSE KNOWLES "YOU" … a story was in verse of the Death March of Bataan during World War II The story of Jesse Knowles lived and wrote in April 1943, while he and several hundred other Americans Prisoners of War were the Japanese in Mukden, Manchuria. During the march from Mariveles, on the southern end of the peninsula of Bataan to San Fernando, 55 miles away, were 76 000 American and Filipino prisoners of war, bound, beaten or killed by their Japanese captors. Some were bayoneted when they fell from exhaustion. Some were forced to dig their own graves and were buried alive. Only 56,000 prisoners reached camp alive. Thousands of them later died of malnutrition and Disease. In August 1945 the Russian Army liberated the prison camp at Mukden and the first American that they saw were in the port of Darien, Manchuria, the U.S. Navy as the prisoners loaded on board a ship for the long-awaited trip home …. Strange things were in the United States under the tropical sun by the men in khaki twill done Those tropic Nights have some interest, your heart stand still, the mountain paths, some stories that no one would want to spin ever seen, but the worst of all was after the fall when we started this hike on T'was the 7th December in '41 When they hit Hawaii as the day started one Sunday morning T'was and all was quiet when out of nowhere came the bombs It did not take long, but the damage was done America was at war with the rising sun on Now in the Philippines We have heard the message, and it shook every man is to clean his shoes, it seemed like a dream start but soon every soldier was a fighting man Each branch was prepared to part of their artillery, infantry, Nichols and Clark And then they came on that Monday afternoon to make Clark field like a typhoon, Monday night the moon was clear, they razed to the ground strike Nichols from front to rear As the days went by more bombers came And soon only a few P-40, then stayed the orders came and said retreat, that no man on the Streets of the city would be seen across the bay so we have removed at night from Manila and out of sight deep in the jungles of Bataan with 15,000 were here on a tripod We fought as soldiers should do as the days went by our blood we Tho 'spilled the rumors came and went in the night That convoy never came in sight 7th April was a fatal day, went around to the word that we will not remain front was due to fall, so the troops moved on again and all the next day the surrender came Then we were men without a name you might think, here's where the story ends But actually, here's where it starts Tho 'we fought and the victory was not the story of this march will go down in history We marched in columns of four Living and seeing the horrors of war And if a man fell on the way to a cold bayonet would it to pay for those four months he fought on Bataan Then they would kill him "because he could not bear the tropic sun would sweat us for the pumps were dry only a few that we passed, but we were marching to an unknown destination A place to relax and call home Home not that you may know, but at home to the people who suffered a stroke then Camp O'Donnell, some en masse never again "to the gates In Nipa huts we lived beast Bad rice and Camotes called Pass were a feast Our thoughts went back to days when our throats were never our wives, our mothers and our friends bygone days and our many sins dry and disappeared about four thousand passed and how many can say no man For no grave stone marks the place where were buried 30-50 in much Piled together as a heap of rubble The remains of men who were forced to retreat now I want to find, and my words are straight and I bet you think that it true that if you die, it must be better to try and take it with you, it is to them that we took that fatal day It is they who pay us and pay it's made them, that we counted Wanted morning and evening, it is her that we fight again, it is they who made us who we are, but it is not true that then win this war for the men in khaki will come some day and we returned to the U.S.

Survivor $13.99 Shortly after her thirty-seventh birthday, Wall Street Journal reporter and editor Laura Landro was told that she had chronic myelogenous leukemia. Survivor is the remarkable account of her battle against this devastating, potentially fatal cancer — and her successful struggle to take control of her own case. At first almost paralyzed with fear when diagnosed with this form of blood cancer, Laura Landro resolved to use her journalistic training to seek out the treatment that would give her the best shot at surviving. Noting that most Americans spend more time researching what kind of car to buy than they do their health care, she shows how and why all patients can — and must — arm themselves with the facts, learn to understand medical jargon, get doctors to answer all their questions in layman’s terms, weigh conflicting medical opinions, and make the difficult choice among the options open to them. Survivor is a moving, deeply personal account of a life-and-death experience. In it, Laura Landro tells of a fight to live that brought her to the brink of death — and to a despair that at times made her wonder if the struggle was worth it. Her inspiring story offers all readers hope and the know-how to navigate the terrifying and bewildering world of medicine, even when they are very ill and at their most vulnerable. Laura Landro has written a book that is must reading for everyone who has been diagnosed with cancer, and for everyone who has a cancer patient in the family. It will rank beside such classics as Norman Cousins’s Anatomy Of an Illnes As Perceived by the Patient, Cornelius Ryan’s A Private Battle, and John Gunther’s Death Be Not Proud, at once a work of literature and a manifesto for every cancer patient. |

The Survivor $14.99 “In her second book on twin loss, Lynne Schulz skillfully weaves together poignant anecdotes and professional advice to guide parents in raising surviving multiples. Schulz fills a critically unmet need, as no existing books address in detail the challenge of nurturing survivors’ emotional health while keeping the memories of equally desired siblings alive. She includes comments from bereaved parents and adult surviving multiples throughout the book. After reviewing parental grief, the author presents a thought-provoking survey of behaviours observed in young survivors. Strengths of this volume include creative advice for remembering the enduring relationship with deceased co-multiples, advocacy for survivors’ special educational and social needs, and the oft-overlooked surviving triplets and higher-order multiples. Recurring moments of sadness, inevitable when survivors reach major milestones, are viewed from the positive perspective of celebrating the survivor while understandably remembering those who are missing. A discussion of non-Western ideas of twinship illustrates the universal recognition of the uniqueness of multiples and the special attention sometimes paid to their death. Resources and recommendations for parents and professionals round out a well-researched book that is essential reading for parents of surviving multiples and professionals or educators who work with them. – Beth Pector M.D.” |

Sole Survivor $7.99 A catastrophic, unexplainable plane crash leaves three hundred and thirty dead — no survivors. Among the victims are the wife and two daughters of Joe Carpenter, a Los Angeles Post crime reporter. A year after the crash, still gripped by an almost paralyzing grief, Joe encounters a woman named Rose, who claims to have survived the crash. She holds out the possibility of a secret that will bring Joe peace of mind. But before he can ask any questions, she slips away. Driven now by rage (have the authorities withheld information?) and a hope almost as unbearable as his grief (if there is one survivor, are there others?), Joe sets out to find the mysterious woman. His search immediately leads him into the path of a powerful and shadowy organization hell-bent on stopping Rose before she can reveal what she knows about the crash. Sole Survivor unfolds at a heart-stopping pace, as a desperate chase and a shattering emotional odyssey lead Joe to a truth that will force him to reassess everything he thought he knew about life and death — a truth that, given the chance, will rock the world and redefine the destiny of humanity. From the Trade Paperback edition. |

Soul Survivor $9.99 This is the story of James Leininger, who– a little more than two weeks after his second birthday– began having blood-curdling nightmares that just would not stop. When James began screaming out recurring phrases like, “Plane on fire! Little man can’t get out!” the Leiningers finally admitted that they truly had to take notice. When details of planes and war tragedies no two-year-old boy could know continued– even in stark daylight– Bruce and Andrea Leininger began to realize that this was an incredible situation. SOUL SURVIVOR is the story of how the Leiningers pieced together what their son was communicating and eventually discovered that he was reliving the past life of World War II fighter pilot James Huston. As Bruce Leininger struggled to understand what was happening to his son, he also uncovered details of James Huston’s life– and death– as a pilot that will fascinate military buffs everywhere. In SOUL SURVIVOR, we are taken for a gripping ride as the Leiningers’ belief system is shaken to the core, and both of these families come to know a little boy who, against all odds and even in the face of true skeptics, harbors the soul of this man who died long ago. |
